Oscar night

Aside from doing some laundry and turning over the rooms, I haven’t accomplished much today. Joey is eating leftover kettle corn and watching the Oscars in the lobby. Harvey is sitting on the floor, watching Joey eat. I spent 20 minutes watching the Oscars and another 15 minutes watching Harvey watch Joey watch the Oscars before I got bored and came outside to listen to the night.

I’m going over to Albuquerque tomorrow to pick up bathroom fixtures, drywall, ceiling fans and carpets.

I’m trying to work up the nerve to tackle Unit Two next, but it and Unit One are going to have to be reroofed from the decking on out before I do anything else, and I’m really not looking forward to that. These little buildings aren’t very tall, but I don’t even like the idea of standing on a stepladder, much less climbing around on a roof that’s completely rotted out in several places, so I’m really going to have to psych myself up before I start tearing down shingles and replacing boards.

If anybody has suggestions for overcoming an irrational fear of heights, I’d love to hear them.

You could always offer a few free nights in exchange for some roofing work, or maybe see if there’s a local Route 66 preservation committee that could help you out.

I thought about that, but I’m a little concerned about liability issues. I could probably hire a contractor and have it finished in a day or two, but I’m too cheap. Besides all that, I really need to start getting over some of my hangups. If I don’t fall off the roof and break my neck, I should be two habitable units richer and one fear poorer by this time next month.
